Welcome to a tour around a sample Blackboard course. After you login to Blackboard, the My Blackboard tab displays. Use the Tools area on the left side to change your password. The My Announcements area in the center of the window displays announcements for your courses. Do not click on these links to enter your courses. An optional calendar and Blackboard Backpack dispaly in this area. You usually will not use these features. The My Courses area on the right side is the area you'll use the most. My Courses contains the links to your classes along with current announcements. Click on the course name to enter your class. In this example we have one course displayed, we'll click on "CIS 100" to enter the clasas. Now the My Blackboard tab displays the Blackboard course site for the CIS 100 class. Next, we'll a take a look at the course sections listed at the left main navigation area. Your course site may be arranged differently, but this overview will help you to become comfortable using Blackboard. Announcements Access this area to view important up-to-the minute information about your course. This is the first page you will normally see when you log into your course. Your Instructor Meet your professor virtually and find out important contact information. This area is sometimes named "Staff Information" or "Faculty". Syllabus View important information that includes the course syllabus and course policies. This area is sometimes called "Course Information". Course Schedule View the schedule and due dates for the course. This area is sometimes named "Timeline" or "Course Information". In some courses, the schedule may be found in the Syllabus or another area. Course Modules This area is sometimes called "Course Material". View presentations, notes, assignments, and other information. Some instructors list the course modules, lessons, or sessions, here. This area is sometimes named "Course Documents" or "Assignments". This course contains an optional section named "Course Project" to describe the semester-long project completed by students in the course. Discussion Board Participate in online discussions. Communicate with your classmates and professor in this area. Some courses display the Discussion Board first instead of Announcements. Messages Send and receive messages to your instructor and classmates in this area. Collaboration Join a live chat in Collaboration. Resources You'll find links to useful articles and websites here. This area is sometimes named "Web Sites". My Grades Check your grades online using My Grades. This area may be called "Student Tools". Get Help The Get Help link opens a new web page with information about the Library, Success Services, and Tutoring Center. Tech Support Also listed as "Student Tech Support", this link displays a new web page with contact information for technical support with Blackboard, E-mail, and the Student Portal questions.
